程式化翻译汉语表示禁止的标识语一般用“禁止 /请勿 +动词 ” 结构 ,而在英语标识语中常用“No +名词或动名词 ” 的形式。例如: 禁止吸食“No Drugs” ,请勿将软包装的饮料带入场内“No Drinks from Outside” ,请勿乱扔废弃物“No L ittering” ,不准停车“No Parking” 。汉语中表示“ 专用 ” , 英语可用“ 名词 + ONLY” 的形式。如员工专用 Staff Only; 公交车专用 BusesOnly; 贵宾专用 VIP Only; 会员专用MembersOnly等。

反向翻译翻译时, 汉语里有些从正面表达的词, 译文中可从反面来表达; 汉语中有些从反面表达的词 , 译文中又可从正面来表达。如“请勿将头伸出窗外”, 如果将其译为“Don’ t put your head out of the window ” ,则会让人感觉语气强烈, 在心理上难以接受和认同。而如果从相反的角度来传达同一信息, “Keep head inside vehicle” , 这样更符合英语的习惯表达 ,也更委婉 ,让人易接受。再如:人行道上禁止停车“Park off pement” ; 请勿触摸“HandsOff” ; 请勿倒置“Keep Top Side Up” ; 请不要站在门口“Stand Clear of the Door” ; 请勿入内“Keep Off the Grass” 等。
